    Van Smokey Sedillo, 18, Vail, took the standard plea bargain on a charge of shoplifting, meaning he pleaded conditionally guilty and got a suspended fine of 268 and was ordered to pay a 75 deferred prosecution fee and complete the NASP (National Association of Shoplifting Prevention) anti-shoplifting program, which has its own cost. Alan Corral, 18, Sahuarita, took the standard plea bargain on a charge of shoplifting. (Green Valley News & Sun, AZ)

    Shoplifting incidents way up from last year  May 2, 2009
    Across the country, shoplifting went up nine percent for the first three months of this year, compared to the same time period a year ago, the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention (NASP) reported. Even more startling is that this is on top of a 23 percent jump from 2007 to 2008. (Weymouth News, MA)
